MSPGeek Terms of Service

MSPGeek is operated by MSPGeek, Inc., a nonprofit corporation registered in South Carolina, United States (“MSPGeek”, “we”, “us”).

These Terms govern your use of:

  • The MSPGeek forums at forums.mspgeek.org
  • The MSPGeek website at mspgeek.org
  • The MSPGeek Discord server
  • The MSPGeek Slack workspace
  • MSPGeekChatBridge, our Slack–Discord bridge (shown in Discord as MSPGeekBot)
  • The MSPGeek bot, which handles registration (shown in Discord as MSPGeek Bot)
  • Goots Fabric, where used to operate the MSPGeek community
  • MSPGeek downloads, files, and any other service we operate under the MSPGeek name

Goots Fabric is a trading name of MSPGeek, Inc., not a separate company. Where Goots Fabric is used by other communities, that use is governed by separate terms.

By creating an account or participating in any of these, you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, do not participate.

1. Content posted here is not confidential

This is the most important thing on this page.

Everything you post — messages, replies, code, scripts, logs, screenshots, images, links, file uploads, profile information, and reactions — is visible to others and is permanent. How wide the audience is depends on where you post it:

  • Public forum areas are readable by anyone on the internet, including people without an account, and are indexed by search engines.
  • Restricted forum areas are readable by signed-in members with access to that area.
  • Discord and Slack are bridged. Anything you post in a bridged channel is visible to everyone with access to that channel on both platforms, regardless of which one you posted from. See Section 6.

In every case:

  • Content is archived indefinitely. We do not guarantee deletion.
  • Deleting a post does not recall copies that others have already seen, saved, quoted, screenshotted, or that search engines have cached.
  • Content posted before you delete your account remains visible after your account is gone.

We do not treat community content as confidential. Do not post anything you would not want permanently attributed to you.

1.1 Do not republish

Not confidential does not mean not private. MSPGeek is a private community. A large number of people have access, and we cannot control what any of them do — but access is not permission to carry what is said here elsewhere.

Do not take content from the community and republish it outside it without the original poster’s permission. This includes screenshots, quotations attributed to named members, and reposting to other communities, social media, or the press.

Breaching this is grounds for removal. It is a rule we enforce, not a guarantee we can make: if you post something in the community, assume it may escape it.

Account and verification data is a separate matter and is not published by us. If you use your real name as your display name, or identify yourself in a post, that is content and falls under this Section. See our Privacy Notice.

2. Eligibility

You must be 18 or older to participate.

MSPGeek exists for managed service providers and IT professionals. Participation is open to:

  • People working at or with managed service providers
  • IT professionals more broadly, including those formerly in the MSP channel
  • Others admitted at our discretion

Participation may be refused or revoked at any time, including retroactively, if we determine you are:

  • Present primarily to gather competitive intelligence on the MSP channel
  • A client, or an employee of a client, of a participating MSP
  • Misrepresenting your identity, employer, or role
  • Otherwise not a good-faith participant

We determine eligibility at our sole discretion. We may act on this without prior notice.

3. Accounts

You must provide accurate registration information and keep your credentials secure. You are responsible for everything done under your account.

Accounts are personal. Do not share, sell, or transfer them.

We may require verification of your identity, employer, or channel affiliation as a condition of continued participation.

4. Code of Conduct

The MSPGeek Code of Conduct is incorporated into these Terms by reference and forms part of your agreement with us. It is published at https://docs.mspgeek.com/shared_article/y8fWWTSGHsfKDbC9c7f8EojU

We may update the Code of Conduct without amending these Terms. Continued participation after an update means you accept it.

5. Your content, and other people’s data

5.1 What you grant us

You keep ownership of what you post. You grant MSPGeek a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free, perpetual, irrevocable licence to host, store, reproduce, display, distribute, index, archive, and relay your content across our platforms, and to permit others to view and quote it, for the purpose of operating the community.

This licence survives deletion of your account.

5.2 What you must not post

You must not post:

  • Content you do not have the right to share
  • Client, customer, or end-user personal data — including names, email addresses, phone numbers, physical addresses, or account identifiers — in logs, tickets, screenshots, database output, or any other form
  • Credentials, API keys, tokens, connection strings, or secrets, whether yours or anyone else’s
  • Confidential information belonging to your employer, your clients, or any vendor
  • Malware, or code whose primary purpose is unauthorised access

Redact before you post. Pasting a ticket body or a log file without redacting it exposes your client’s data to everyone who can see that channel or forum area — and in public areas, to the whole internet.

5.3 Your warranty and indemnity

You warrant that you have the right to post everything you post, and that doing so does not breach any obligation you owe to a third party.

You agree to indemnify and hold harmless MSPGeek, Inc., its directors, officers, staff, and volunteers against any claim, loss, or expense arising from content you post, including claims brought by your employer, your clients, or any individual whose personal data you published.

6. The Slack–Discord bridge

We operate MSPGeekChatBridge, which relays messages between our Discord server and our Slack workspace. Every public channel is bridged, and some private channels are as well. Private channels are only ever bridged to their equivalent private channel on the other platform.

If you post in a bridged channel:

  • Your message, and any files or images, are copied to the other platform and are visible to everyone with access to that channel there
  • Your display name is shown alongside it
  • Relayed messages appear as though posted by a bot, so it is usually obvious when a channel is bridged
  • Edits and deletions you make are propagated to the mirrored copy, provided the bridge is running at the time; changes made while the bridge is offline, or to very old messages, may not propagate
  • Discord and Slack each retain data under their own terms, which we do not control

Do not assume a channel is single-platform. Assume it is bridged.

7. Downloads, scripts, and code

MSPGeek hosts scripts, tooling, and code contributed by community members.

This material is provided as-is, by third parties, with no review, testing, warranty, or endorsement by MSPGeek.

You are solely responsible for reviewing, testing, and validating anything you download before running it. Running community-contributed code in a production environment, or against client systems, is entirely at your own risk. MSPGeek is not liable for any damage, data loss, outage, security incident, or client impact resulting from material obtained here.

8. Moderation and enforcement

We may, at our discretion and without prior notice:

  • Remove, edit, or hide any content
  • Issue warnings
  • Restrict, suspend, or terminate any account
  • Ban you from any or all of our platforms

Where required by applicable law, we will provide affected users with a statement of the specific grounds for a restriction and information about how to contest it. Contact [email protected] to contest a moderation decision.

Enforcement is not conditional on your standing in the community. Supporter tiers, sponsorship, vendor status, and length of membership do not exempt anyone from these Terms or the Code of Conduct.

We are not obliged to monitor content, and we do not pre-screen it.

8.1 Identity checks

Where a member makes claims about their role, employer, or experience that we have reason to doubt, or where a member’s conduct is disruptive, we may ask them to verify their identity to staff. Refusing is grounds for removal. We do not publish what you give us.

Separately, some discussions carry more weight when the community knows who is behind them. Security claims, criticism of a named vendor, and similar topics can be inflammatory or damaging when raised anonymously, and are far easier to weigh when a known member stands behind them. In those cases we may ask you to identify yourself publicly as a condition of continuing that particular discussion.

You are never required to do this. You may decline and drop the topic instead. If you do identify yourself publicly, that becomes content under Section 1.

9. Illegal content and copyright

9.1 Reporting illegal content

To report content you believe is illegal, contact [email protected] or use the report function on the relevant post. Tell us what the content is, where it is, and why you believe it is illegal. We will assess reports and act where appropriate.

9.2 Copyright — DMCA

MSPGeek complies with the Digital Millennium Copyright Act. To submit a takedown notice under 17 U.S.C. § 512(c), contact our designated agent:

Your notice must include the elements required by 17 U.S.C. § 512(c)(3). We will remove or disable access to material that is the subject of a valid notice, and we will terminate the accounts of repeat infringers.

You may submit a counter-notice under 17 U.S.C. § 512(g) to the same address.

10. Paid memberships, donations, and merchandise

Supporter tiers are sold and processed by Discord under Discord’s own terms. Subscribing does not purchase any service, guarantee of access, status, or influence over MSPGeek’s operations or moderation decisions. Subscribing does not exempt you from these Terms or the Code of Conduct, and does not protect you from moderation action.

Donations to MSPGeek, Inc. are voluntary and, unless we state otherwise in writing, non-refundable.

Our merchandise store is operated by Spreadshirt (myspreadshop) under their own terms. We do not receive or store your payment details.

11. You are not a member of the corporation

Participation in the MSPGeek community does not make you a member of MSPGeek, Inc. within the meaning of the South Carolina Nonprofit Corporation Act or any other law.

Community participants have no voting rights, no right to inspect corporate records, no governance rights, and no ownership interest in MSPGeek, Inc.

12. Vendors and sponsors

Vendor and sponsor participation is governed by separate agreements. Vendor presence in the community is not an endorsement by MSPGeek of that vendor’s products or services, and community discussion of a vendor is not a statement by MSPGeek.

13. No warranty

MSPGeek is provided free of charge, as-is and as-available, with no warranty of any kind, express or implied. We do not warrant that the service will be available, uninterrupted, secure, or error-free, or that content posted here is accurate, current, or fit for any purpose.

Information posted here is contributed by community members. It is not professional advice. Verify it before you rely on it.

14. Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, MSPGeek, Inc., its directors, officers, staff, and volunteers are not liable for any indirect, incidental, consequential, special, or punitive damages, or for any loss of data, revenue, profit, or business, arising from your use of MSPGeek.

Our total aggregate liability to you for any claim arising from these Terms or your use of MSPGeek will not exceed one hundred United States dollars (US $100).

Nothing in this section limits liability that cannot be limited under applicable law.

15. Termination

You may stop participating at any time and may request account deletion at [email protected]. What is deleted, and what remains, is described in our Privacy Notice.

We may terminate your access at any time under Section 8. Sections 5.1, 5.3, 7, 11, 13, 14, and 17 survive termination.

16. Changes to these Terms

We may update these Terms. We will post the updated version here and change the “Last updated” date. Material changes will be announced in the community. Continued participation after changes take effect means you accept them.

17. Governing law

These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of South Carolina, United States, without regard to conflict of law principles. The state and federal courts located in South Carolina have exclusive jurisdiction, except where applicable consumer protection law in your country of residence gives you the right to bring proceedings locally.
